River Islands Celebrates Groundbreaking of Fourth K-8 School

About 100 people attended the groundbreaking of the fourth K-8 school in the River Islands Academies. The new campus, which is planned for a Fall 2026 opening, will accommodate approximately 1080 students and be located just past River Islands High School at the end of Branton Avenue.

Tosh Ishihara, member of the City of Lathrop Planning Commission, Paul Akinjo, Mayor of Lathrop, Susan Dell’Osso, President of River Islands, and Bennie Gatto were in attendance at the groundbreaking ceremony. Bennie Gatto is also a former mayor of Lathrop and a long-time supporter of the River Islands community. The River Islands trail system is named for Bennie and his late wife, Joyce Gatto, who are considered “Lathrop treasures”.
